As the weather warms up, more and more riders are hitting the road.

If your electric motorcycle has been taking a break during the winter, now’s the perfect time to get it ready to cruise through the city again.

Just like gas-powered bikes, electric motorcycles need timely maintenance. For a safer and smoother ride, here are the essential items you should check before your first ride of the season.

1. Battery Health Check is a Must

The battery is the “heart” of an electric motorcycle and should be the first thing you inspect.

Leaving it discharged during winter can significantly reduce its lifespan.

  • Check charge status: If fully discharged, do an initial charge and monitor for an hour or two to see if voltage rises normally.

  • Check cell balance: Some batteries allow you to check for cell imbalance through the BMS (Battery Management System). Uneven cells can shorten battery life, so it’s important to check regularly.

  • Inspect the charger: If your charger hasn’t been used in a while, test it to ensure it’s working correctly—faulty output can damage the battery.

Tip: Keeping the battery between 30–80% charge is ideal for prolonging its lifespan.

2. Tire Pressure & Wear Inspection

Riding on tires with low winter air pressure can be dangerous.

Electric motorcycles tend to wear tires faster due to low center of gravity and high torque.

  • Inflate to the recommended PSI (usually 30–36psi, depending on tire brand and model).

  • Visually inspect for cracks, wear, or uneven tread.

3. Clean Connectors & Contact Points

Electric motorcycles have many connectors for power and signal transmission.

Moisture, dust, and condensation during winter can corrode contacts and cause malfunctions.

  • Clean battery terminals, charging ports, and main switches with contact cleaner.

  • After drying, apply anti-rust spray for added protection.

  • Important: Always cut power before touching any high-voltage components!

4. Software Check & Firmware Update

Many electric motorcycles now include smart features.

Updating the firmware of the BMS, motor controller, and display can improve stability and add new functions.

  • Check for updates via the manufacturer’s app or website.

  • Updates can usually be done via Wi-Fi or a wired connection.

  • They can help fix sensor errors, adjust regenerative braking levels, and correct speedometer discrepancies.

5. Brake & Suspension Check

Electric motorcycles have strong torque, often leading to frequent sudden stops.

That means regular checks on the braking and suspension systems are crucial.

  • Inspect brake pads, discs, and look for brake fluid leaks.

  • Test front/rear shock absorber responsiveness.

  • Make sure the ABS system is functioning correctly.

🚨 Keep the First Ride Light and Easy

Even after checking everything, don’t go hard on your first ride.

A short and easy test ride is the best way to spot any hidden issues.

Routine Maintenance is the Best Insurance

Electric motorcycles are structurally simple to maintain,

but one overlooked issue can lead to costly repairs.

With regular checks and care, your electric motorcycle can easily last over five years!

So this season, ride strong and silent

with a well-maintained electric motorcycle by your side.
