Nationwide Expansion Begins with Battery Swapping Stations (BSS) in Phone Booths and Gas Stations

In April 2022, E3 Mobility was selected for the “Zero-Emission Vehicle Transition Brand Project” led by South Korea’s Ministry of Environment. As part of this initiative, the company launched its pilot program in Daegu, marking the official start of its battery swapping system (BSS) infrastructure.
This project is seen as a milestone toward a nationwide BSS network, aiming to both expand eco-friendly mobility and repurpose underutilized public infrastructure.
E3 Mobility began by transforming outdated public phone booths—once regarded as urban clutter—into smart energy hubs. A total of 46 phone booth-based BSS sites were installed across Daegu.
Additionally, in partnership with SK Energy, 6 gas station locations were equipped with 12 battery swapping units, further enhancing accessibility for users.
Rather than simply deploying charging points, this initiative focuses on:
“Integrating energy access naturally into users’ daily routes and routines.”

A spokesperson from E3 Mobility commented:
“By utilizing existing infrastructure like phone booths and gas stations, we’ve been able to reduce installation costs while dramatically improving convenience.”
“We plan to expand this model step by step, from Daegu to cities across the nation.”
This project introduced the concept of battery swapping as a new charging paradigm in Korea’s electric two-wheeler market, setting the stage for greater user convenience and smarter energy access in the near future.
